Virkad matta – Crochet rug

Bra service!

I finally finished the crochet project I started some weeks ago. It resulted in a small rug. I encountered some trouble on the way since I ran out of rags. I bought the jersey rags at the Sewing Festival in Stockholm and had no idea in which booth. But after some serious detective work, I figured out that it was from Vävtex in Grängesberg. I called them up (they don’t have an online store) and they were kind enough to send me some extra material so that I could complete my rug. That’s what I call good service!

Make double crochet stitches and increase the number of stitches on every row to make the rug flat and not shaped like a bowl. Alternate with loop rows and finish off with a picot trim. My pattern comes from Vävtex but you can find loads of similar patterns at Etsy, for a resonable price. Or use a doily pattern you like, that works too!

The rug was supposed to be for the upstairs bathroom but now I’m not sure. At the moment I’m moving it from one room to another to see there it fits best. Here you see it in the hallway on the second floor. The wallpaper in the background is from Pip Studio

One who doesn’t hesitate in the least about where the rug should reside is little miss E.
“-It’s MY rug!”, she states.

Rachel, Lisa, Niru, Chris: Thank you! Both of my girls really like it.

Petronella: Tack!

  8. Super cool! I might just have to try to make one of these for myself… it looks comfy too 🙂

  12. Hi there! My name is Judith and I just love your rug, so I began to do it but I am kind of stuck at the loop row. I don’t know how to increase doing the loops. I would be very grateful if you can explain it to me. Thanks a lot for sharing your work, really nice photos too.

    Cheers,

    Judith

    • Hi Judith,
I followed a pattern when making my rug and I don’t quite remember how many stitches I increased for every row. But the idea is to increase as many as you need to make the carpet flat and not bowl shaped. To increase – you make two double crochet stitches in the same stitch in the previous row. I don’t know how to explain it better, since I’m not really very advanced at crochet. 😉 Good luck!
      Kind regards /Helena

  13. Hi!
LOVE this rug and would like to know how to make it. May I ask where you found the pattern or if you have a link to it that you wouldn’t mind sharing?
    Tack så hems mycket!
    Lotta x

    • Hi Lotta!
The pattern came with the jersey rags i bought at a fair in Sweden. I’m afraid I can’t share it with you since it’s not mine. 🙂

It’s quite basic though – make double crochet stitches and increase the number of stitches on every row to make the rug flat and not shaped like a bowl. Alternate with loop rows and finish off with a picot trim.

Or try Etsy, there you can find lots of patterns for crochet rugs: http://www.etsy.com/search?search_submit=&q=crochet+rug+pattern

      Good luck! Kind regards /Helena

  14. I liked to crochet this rug, but I need the directions in English. Can someone help me out with that?

    • I’m sorry I don’t have the instructions in English but try googling “crochet rug” or “doily rug”. 🙂 Kind regards /Helena
