Inför vår resa till Thailand i början av januari fick mina döttrar var sin resväska av mormor i julklapp. Mormor föreslog att vi kunde göra väskorna mer personliga genom att dekorera dem på något sätt och jag kom på idén med att märka dem med första bokstaven i barnens namn.

Prior to our trip to Thailand in early January, my daughters got suitcases from their grandmother for Christmas. Grandma suggested that we could decorate the suitcases to make them more unique and I came up with the idea to label them with the first letters in the girls’ names.

Två lyckliga tjejer kunde enkelt identifiera sina väskor på bagagebandet på Bangkoks flygplats och sedan stolt rulla iväg sina fina väskor.

Two happy girls could easily identify their bags on the luggage carousel at Bangkok airport and proudly walk away with their suitcases. 

Jag använde Script Alphabet pappersstenciler från Martha Stewart Crafts® tillsammans med metallicfärg av samma märke, i nyanserna Sterling och Gold. Jag lade stencilen på väskan, tog upp färgen med en svamp och duttade med den över stencilen. Beroende på absorberande väskans tyg är behöver man mer eller mindre färg på svampen. Jag fyllde i lite extra med en pensel efteråt. Enligt färgens specifikationer så är den permanent på tyg efter 21 dagar. Jag hade inte så stor marginal utan målade väskorna någon vecka innan vi reste men färgen höll ändå utmärkt. Stencilerna är gjorda av kraftigt papper och håller för flera projekt.

I used paper stencils (Script Alphabet) from Martha Stewart Crafts® with Metallic paint by the same brand, in the colors of Sterling and Gold. I placed the stencil on top of the bag and applied paint with a sponge. Depending on how absorbent the fabric is, you need little or plenty of paint. For these bags, I filled in bit extra with a brush afterwards. According to the color specifications the paint is permanent on fabric after 21 days. I didn’t have that much time and painted the suitcases a week before our trip, but that worked fine too. The stencils are made of heavy paper and will last for many projects.

Väskorna fick vara med om en hel del under resan. Dels själva flygresan och kontrasten mellan kylan hemma och värmen i Thailand men de fick också färdas i speedboat till Koh Samet och vi gick en bra bit med dem på stranden. Trots att de utsatts för väder & vind så ser bokstäverna lika fina ut nu som innan vi åkte. Väskornas hjul däremot gillade inte riktigt sanden men det gick att åtgärda.

The bags where exposed to a lot during our trip. First the flight itself and the contrast between the cold here in Sweden and the hot weather in Thailand but they also went by speedboat to Koh Samet and we walked a good distance with them on the beach. Despite being exposed to different kind of weather, the letters did not get effected and look as nice now as before the trip. The suitcase wheels on the other hand didn’t like the sand, but that was a quick fix.
