Pinterest är en fantastisk inspirationskälla och ibland ser man saker som man bara “måste” testa. Som dessa flätade luftballonger i papper (mönster från PaperMatrix). Men ibland blir det inte riktigt som man tänkt sig.

Pinterest is a fantastic source of inspiration and sometimes you see things you just “need” to make. Like these woven paper hot air balloons (template from PaperMatrix). But sometimes things doesn’t turn out the way you expect them to. 

Min kära mamma hjälpte mig klippa ur alla delar. Det skulle räcka till ett helt gäng luftballonger. Vad vi inte visste var att själva monteringen skulle bli extremt tålamodsprövande och kräva typ två veckors semester efteråt. Hjälp! 1 dryg timme, 10 klädnypor, åtskilliga bitar självhäftande tejp och många svordomar senare så lyckades jag färdigställa en (1) luftballong. Det blir inga fler, kan jag lova.

My dear mother helped me to cut out all the parts. Enough to last for a whole bunch of hot air balloons. What we didn’t foresee was that making them would require a hole lot of patience and about two weeks of vacation afterwards. Help! More than 1 hour, 10 clothespins, tons of adhesive tape and many curses later, I managed to complete one (1) hot air balloon. Let me tell you, there will be no more. 

Visst blev den rätt så fin. Men inte värd mödan (jag skyller absolut inte på mönstret, det var utmärkt. Jag tar på mig all skuld själv!). Trots allt har jag en idé att göra en ballong i tyg och i så fall stryka vlieseline på baksidan av tyget innan jag klipper så det inte fransar sig. Mer tåligt och mer hållbart än papper. Skulle kunna bli fint, eller vad tror ni? Fast det vete sjutton om jag vågar ge mig på det projektet… Vi får se.

Sure it turned out kind of nice. But it wasn’t worth the effort (I certainly don’t blame the pattern, it was excellent. I take all the blame myself!). Still, I have this idea to make a balloon out of fabric and if so, put interfacing on the back of the fabric before cutting. More durable and resistant than paper. Could turn out pretty, or what do you think? But I don’t know if I dare to try … We’ll see.
