Dagens pyssel, pappersaskar –
Craft of the Day, paper boxes

Storleken bestämmer man själv.

When I was little my mom taught me how to make these paper boxes. A knowledge that’s been with me since and I’ve also learned my eldest daughter how to make them. A fun craft that only requires a sheet of paper, scissors and perhaps a bit of tape or glue. A piece of cake. No need to measure, the only important thing is that you have a square paper (all sides the same length). How big is up to you.

You can use almost any paper; wrapping paper, printer paper, wallpaper samples or a newspaper for example.

Besides, if you make two boxes (one slightly smaller then the other) one can be used as a base and the other one as a lid. Wrap a string around it, put on a gift tag, and you’ve got yourself a nice gift box.

  1. If someone uses a 20 cm. size of paper, will the completed box be 10 cm.? Or, what is the ratio of paper size to finished box size? Thanks, your boxes are beautiful.

    • Hi Nancy,
      I’m afraid I’m no mathematic so I can’t really tell you the ratio. But I measured instead and a 20 cm sized paper will create a box that’s about 7-8 cm big. Hope that helps. 🙂 I’m glad you like the boxes.

  2. I worked out a formula so you can calculate what paper size you need for a particular box size and what box size you’ll get from a particular paper size

    width of paper = square root of { (4 x width of box)² / 2 }

    So if you want a 6cm box you need a width of paper equal to…

    square root of { (4 x 6)² / 2 } = square root of { 24² / 2 } = square root of {576 / 2}

    = square root of 288 = 17cm

    width of box = [ square root of {2 x (width of paper)²} ] / 4

    So if you have 20cm wide paper then the width of your box will be…

    [ square root of {2 x 20²} ] / 4 = [ square root of {2 x 400} ] / 4

    = [ square root of 800 ] / 4 = 28.28 / 4 = 7.1cm

    I hope this helps.

    • Hey, thanks to both of you (Laura for the info and the admin for the tutorial). I do have a question..all these are to make square boxes right??? what about rectangular?????? thanks! 😉
