Pimped lampshades - by Craft & Creativity

Vi har roat oss med att dekorera enkla vita lampskärmar på olika sätt. Min kollegas kreativa fru fick idén att göra avtagbara dekorband till skärmarna och på så sätt kan man byta utseende på lamporna efter årstid och humör. På ett band sydde hon fast ullpärlor, stora och små med en liten pärla mellan. Den andra bandet är dekorerat med vita kalkonfjädrar och vita pärlor. Fina båda två, tycker jag.

We’ve had a fun time while decorating plain white lampshade in different ways. My colleague’s creative wife got the idea to make removable decorative ribbons to use on the lampshades. That way you can change the look depending on season and mood. She decorated one of the ribbons with a mix of large and small wool beads, combined with green pearls. The second ribbon was decorated with white turkey feathers and white pearls. I think they both look very pretty.

Billiga lampskärmar kan man hitta på Ikea eller Rusta t ex. Tavlan med den lilla flickan och fåglarna är ett Illustration av Sara Harvey som jag köpt på Etsy för några år sedan.

Min lampskärm valde jag att täcka helt och hållet med vita kalkonfjädrar. Jag limmade helt sonika fast dem med hobbylim och lät torka. Jag har inte ännu bestämt i vilket rum den lampan ska få bo, antingen i något av barnens rum eller i vårt sovrum. Giraffen ovan har jag sytt efter mönster från en mönsterbok jag lånade på biblioteket, “Sy mjuka djur” av Karin Neuschütz. Tyget är ett gammalt örngott. Vasen till höger är köpt på Indiska, men det var ett tag sedan.

I chose to cover my whole lampshade with white turkey feathers. I simply glued the feathers to the lampshade with craft glue and let it dry. As simple as that. I haven’t yet decided in which room to place the lamp, either in one of the girls’ rooms or in our bedroom. Regarding the giraffe above, I made him after a pattern from a book called “Sew Soft Toys” by Karin Neuschütz. The fabric is an old pillowcase.

Advent i huset – Christmas in the house

Första advent och dags att julpynta huset. Jag pyntar inte överdrivet mycket men plockar fram mina favoriter som är en blandning av gamla och nya saker.

It’s the first Advent before Christmas and time to decorate the house. My favorite Christmas decorations are a mix of old an new stuff. 

Hyllan i köket ändrar utseende efter säsong. Vissa saker står där året om, som mitt GreenGate och Cath Kidston-porslin. De passar lika bra vår som vinter, tycker jag.

Our kitchen shelf changes look through the seasons. Some of the things have their place there all year round, as my Greengate and Cath Kidston-kitchenware. I think they look nice, winter as well as spring.

Washitejpad julgran –
Washi taped Christmas tree

Har man inte plats för en julgran hemma eller helt enkelt vill slippa alla fallande barr så kan man tejpa upp en gran istället. Om inte annat för är det en kul grej. Washitejp (japansk papperstejp) är lätt att ta bort och lämnar inga märken. Svårast var att få granen någorlunda symmetrisk… måttstock är att rekommendera.

If you don’t have room for a real Christmas tree or if your tired of needle-drop, you can tape up a tree instead. if for no other reason, it looks kind of fun. Washi tape (japanese masking tape) is easy to remove doesn’t leave marks. The most difficult thing was to get the tree somewhat symmetrical … I recommend a yardstick.

Idag är det dags! – Today is the Day!

Idag är det dags. Dagen D. Dags att berätta vad som sysselsatt mig den senaste tiden. Vad som gjort att jag jobbat nästan dygnet runt och varit totalt osocial mot familj, släkt & vänner (förlåt!).

Ända sedan jag startade bloggen för ganska precis 1 år sedan har jag närt en dröm om att öppna en webbutik för gör-det-själv entusiaster. Tillsammans med en kollega har jag nu förverkligat detta.

Vi vill erbjuda kvalitetsprodukter utvalda av kreativa människor, för kreativa människor. Hos oss ska du kunna hitta inspiration och material, oavsett om du skapar för att göra ditt hem mer personligt med unik design, för att det är en rolig hobby att dela med barnen, eller för att det helt enkelt får dig att koppla av och må bra.

Butiken är fortfarande under utveckling och mycket kommer ske så här i starten. Inom kort kommer vi ta in fler intressanta produkter, lansera ytterligare funktioner, erbjuda fler betallösningar och inte minst fylla idébanken med ännu mer inspiration och beskrivningar. Det här är bara början men någon gång måste jag våga släppa taget, fast allt inte känns perfekt. Det känns enormt spännande, roligt och inte minst – väldigt väldigt nervöst.

Today is the day. D-Day. Time to tell you all what’s been keeping me occupied lately. What has made me work almost around the clock with very little spear time for family & friends (sorry!).

Ever since I started this blog, about one year ago, I have nurtured a dream of opening an online store for Do-It-Yourself enthusiasts. Together with a colleague, I have now actualized this dream. For now, the shop is limited to the Swedish market. But if all goes as planned, we will launch it abroad in the future. 

We aim to offer quality products selected by creative people, for creative people. You will be able to find inspiration and supplies, whether you create to make your home more personal with your own unique design, because it’s a fun hobby to share with your kids, or simply a way to relax and feel good.

The shop is still under development, and much will happen in the beginning. Soon we will offer more fun products, launch additional features, offer more payment solutions and last but not least – fill the idea bank with even more inspiration and tutorials. This is just the beginning, but at some point I have to dare to let go, even though everything isn’t perfect. It feels exciting, fun and very very nervous.

Mer pysselrum – More craft room

Inspirerad av mina nymålade skåp fick jag ett ryck och städade jag resten av pysselrummet. Resultatet blev ett kreativt kaos men ändå med viss ordning. /
Inspired by my newly painted cabinets, I did a bit of tidying up in the rest of the craft room. The result is a creative chaos, yet with a certain order. 

Tidskriftssamlarna har jag täckt med mönstrade papper. Gaffeldockorna som hänger på inspirationsväggen kan ni också läsa mer om i tidigare inlägg, likväl som pennhållarna. /
I’ve covered the magazine files with patterned paper. The wooden fork dolls that are hanging on the wall has been featured on the blog previously, as well as the pen holders. 

Band- och tejp- och presentsnöresamlingen. /

Alla små lådor har fått märkningar så jag vet vad de innehåller. /
All the little boxes now have labels so that I know what they contain.

Tapetprover är bra att ha. Jag köper mina från Tapetorama och använder dem som pysselpapper och som bakgrund när jag fotograferar. /
Wallpaper samples are great to have at hand. I buy mine from Tapetorama  and use them as craft paper, and as background when photographing.

Målade skåp – Cabinet makeovers

Jag nämnde häromdagen att jag målat om ett gammalt skåp. Ett skåp som jag tycker mycket om och som funnits i vår ägo i snart femton år. Men nu var det dags för en ansiktslyftning. En ny chockrosa yta. /
I mentioned the other day that I’ve repainted an old cabinet. A cabinet which I’m very fond of and that’s been in our family for almost fifteen years. But now the time had come for a facelift. A new pink finish. 

  

Jag målade skåpet med ett lager grundfärg, lät färgen torka och avslutade med två lager halvblank vattenburen snickerifärg. Nyansen heter S1040-R30B och är riktigt knallrosa. /
I applied one coating of primer, let the paint dry and finished off with two coatings of  semigloss paint. The NCS code is S1040-R30B and it’s a bright pink shade. 

  

Som en liten godisaffär, fast med pysselmaterial! /

Nu hänger skåpet på plats i hobbyrummet. Skåpet till vänster har jag också gjort om. Ramen som var tidigare björk är nu vit och baksidan av skåpet har jag tapetserat med en mix av mönstrade papper. I resväskan förvarar jag mina garner, som jag visat tidigare. /
Now the cabinet hangs in it’s place in the hobby room. The wall cabinet to the left has also had a remake. The framework, previously birch, is now white and I’ve covered the back of the cabinet with a mix of patterned paper scraps. The vintage suitcase in the armchair is filled with all my yarn, as shown before.

Loppisfynd, del 1 – Thrift finds, part 1

Äntligen har jag lyckats fylla den där tråkiga tomma väggen när man kommer upp i hallen på övervåningen. Bilderna är utrivna sidor från en gammal florabok och jag köpte hela bunten för 60 kr under ett besök på Fru Larssons Diversehandel i Knivsta. Jag fyndade även lite andra saker, mer om det vid senare tillfälle. /
Finally I managed to fill that boring blank wall in our upstairs hallway. The pictures are torn pages from a vintage botanical book and I bought the whole bundle for 60 SEK (6 €) on a visit at Fru Larssons Diversehandel (Mrs. Larsson’s thrift store) in Knivsta, north of Stockholm. I made some additional bargains too, more on that coming up at a later date. 

Jag tejpade upp bladen på väggen med washitejp. Om jag en vacker dag ledsnar så är det bara att plocka ner bilderna, utan att det blir märken på väggen. /
I taped up the pages on the wall using washi tape. If I someday in the future get bored of them, I can remove the pictures without getting marks on the wall.

Sovrummet – The bedroom

Vi renoverade vårt sovrum för ett par år sedan. Innan renoveringen var väggarna mörkblåa och tak, fönsterfoder och golv var i gulnad furu. Ganska mörkt, vill säga. Vi ville ha ett ljust och vilsamt sovrum. Till skillnad från resten av huset fick det bli sparsmakat med färger i sovrummet. Lugna toner för ett lugnt rum.

Tapeten heter Tulip Tree och kommer från Cole & son (men verkar inte finnas i sortiment längre). Smyckeshängarna kommer från Berry Details. Fåtöljen är Tomelilla från Ikea, med nytt överdrag från Bemz.

We redecorated our bedroom a couple of years ago. Before the renovation the walls were dark blue and the roof, the window frames and the floor were untreated pine. Fairly dark, that is. We wanted a bright and restful bedroom. Unlike the rest of the house, the bedroom is decorated in muted colors. Soft tones for a peaceful room.

The wallpaper is Tulip Tree by Cole & Son (but seems to be out of production). I found the jewellery hangers at Berry Details in Stockholm. The armchair is Ikea’s Tomelilla, with a new cover from Bemz.

Bakom det hemmasydda draperiet förvarar vi våra kläder på klädställningar på hjul från Ikea. Framför draperiet hänger min nya klänning som jag hade på helgens kalas (inköpt på Esprit). /
We keep our clothes on wheeled clothes racks from Ikea, stored behind these home-sewn curtains. In front of the curtain hangs my new dress (from Esprit), bought especially for last weekend’s celebration.

Steghyllan är köpt på Ellos. Väggen är målad i samma grundnyans som tapeten på motsatta sidan av rummet. En av lådorna på hyllan är en gammal skokartong som jag klätt med tapet. /
This wall is painted in the same nuance as the wallpaper on the opposite side of the room. One of the boxes on the shelf is an old shoe box that I covered with wallpaper.
